Hardcore, Metal, Experimental Electronic Music by South Asians: April Round-up

Our end of month round-up for April is coming out a little later than we hoped, but we think it’s always exciting discovering music whether it’s a fresh new track or one that’s been out for a while. We received some great music videos and new music that you need to check out!

First up, we have this epic lyric video by Hong Kong hardcore punk band Regret. Regret formed in summer 2020 and one of its members is guitarist Riz Farooqi who runs the music site Unite Asia. Their debut single ‘We Exist’ is a poignant and energetic song dedicated to Hong Kong's ethnic minorities and people of colour all over the world. The song comes off the band's debut 7-track EP that was released today (7 May 2021) and available on cassette. It’s Bandcamp Friday, so go show your support and grab some merch.

We were very excited when we discovered Karachi-based nu metal band Kaan Phaard. In their latest single ‘SI(C)NESS’ the band give their thoughts on the rapidly changing world and “how we need to look at the bigger picture and ask right questions while not giving a f*ck what the sheep say.'‘ If you’re fans of nu metal like we are, then you’re going to lose your shit over this band.

Please note, the music video for ‘SI(C)NESS’ has been identified by Epilepsy Action to potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.

HeretiX is an experimental music project that sonically explores the themes of sex and substance within the psyche of a queer body. Their music exudes darkness and an eerie feel that is captivating. An implosion of noise, imbued upon listeners through statically charged highs, and chest numbing lows. HeretiX takes inspiration from 90's tech-house and UK dub, and promises a visceral experience through the hysteric confines of fantasia. Check out their incredible lyric video for their latest single ‘Ascension’.
