‘Nightfall’ is the latest and third self-produced single from British Indian rock artist Maya Lakhani, featuring alt rock production and poignant lyricism.

Maya has received ongoing industry support, following the release of her first two singles ‘The Line’ and ‘Walk Alone’, from the likes of BBC Introducing, Planet Rock and Radio X, as well as being featured on Spotify editorial playlists. She has even received coverage from Rolling Stones India and leading British Asian newspapers Asian Voice and Eastern Eye – we love to see it.

‘Nightfall’ is another strong track from Maya, with the etherial guitars reminiscent of classic rock tones coating your ears and a lush sound palette. The ambience immediately oozes depth as the Maya comes in with her delicate vocals. The thick stadium sound in her performance brings back vivid memories of festival performances in the past.

The chorus is where Maya’s powerfully emotive and anthemic melodies shine. The guitars and Maya’s vocal performance cut through an immense wall of sound she’s created with a straight swing on the drums, from the syncopated rhythm earlier. The guitar lead increases in sequence as it leads up, accenting the lines “I am holding on when nightfalls/ For my life, my life” dropping back down into the next verse with ease.

Linkin Park, Sevendust, Paramore, Bloc Party and R.E.M are a few artists that come to mind when playing this song with the nostalgia it pays homage to. The ambience created throughout, from the instrumentation, musicianship and layering is a testament to Maya’s prowess as a songwriter.

Listening to Maya’s previous songs ‘Walk Alone’ and ‘The Line’ gives me Bat For Lashes vibes on her vocal performance and sound holistically. Maya’s lyrics address personal feelings of longing; personal freedom, with the desire to be understood. ‘Nightfall’ addresses the bad habits and vulnerability we have at night with ourselves and the loneliness isolation can bring.

Playing Nightfall a few times gave me further glimpses into the song and the layers of depth not noticed before. It’s definitely one on repeat!
