Rising British Indian rock artist, Maya Lakhani released her much awaited fourth single Torn in Two earlier this month. Like her previous releases, ‘Torn in Two’ was written, recorded and self-produced entirely in Maya’s bedroom, with her performing all guitars and vocals. The song was mixed by Grammy winning engineer Adrian Bushby, of Muse and Foo Fighters fame.
A fierce, energetic alt rock track, ‘Torn in Two’ takes its influences from the likes of Garbage and PJ Harvey with hints of a heavier Lana Del Ray and vocal inspiration comparable to Paramore. Ahead of its official release, the track had already received airplay and support from BBC Radio 1 with Alyx Holcombe and BBC Introducing with Melita Dennett. With catchy distorted guitar riffs accompanied by snappy snares, Maya’s signature emotive vocals stand out. ‘Torn in Two’ is about the inner turmoil and the battle between forgiving a person or just forgetting them and finally moving on, reflected in the lyrics, “I am torn in two, with you.”
Maya’s dark, self-produced debut releases were promoted on BBC Introducing, BBC Asian Network and UK National stations Planet Rock (Wyatt Wendels). With her music being featured on Spotify editorial playlists, Rolling Stone India and leading British Asian newspapers Asian Voice and Eastern Eye, there is no doubt that Maya is making new waves in the British alt rock scene.
Released on 13th January 2023, Maya’s ‘Torn in Two’ is available to stream on all digital platforms. You can also follow her on Instagram @mayalakhani_.
