Berlin-based grunge band Passionless Pointless released their debut album Passionless Pointless today on Vinyldyke Records. Fusing elements of punk rock with noise rock, Passionless Pointless bring listeners a dark and sludgy sound with the ferocity of punk, combined with melodic vocals and catchy guitar riffs.
Passionless Pointless is Jyoti (drums), Evelyn (singer/guitarist) and Kate (bass) and they are bringing back the 90s grunge sound with a twist. In November 2020, the trio gave us a taste of their 8-track album with singles The Joy of Missing Out and Married Alive and their full body of work is every bit as energetic, honest and humorous as promised. Covering interpersonal relationships and identity, the trio is inspired by both their personal experiences and feminist literature. Passionless Pointless don’t hold back on us with songs like When I Was Straight as they question “When I was straight/ No one told me it was just a phase,” which made me laugh out loud at the relatability as a queer woman. They are also unafraid of sharing their own experiences and tackling tough subjects like sobriety in Surviving My Sobriety, “My girlfriend only liked me when I was dull, drunk and numb/ And then she quickly turned her back on the inconvenience that I’d become.”
Released on the first Bandcamp Friday of 2021 (the day when Bancamp waive their revenue share), Passionless Pointless is available on tape (including a print zine) and digitally (download + stream) via their Bandcamp. You can also find their music on Spotify and follow their journey on Instagram @passionlesspointless.
